If you’re writing about a water problem, include what you’ve observed (smell, color, stains, when it started), whether the issue is in hot water, cold water, or both, and a copy or photo of your most recent water test results if you have them. Symptoms plus test data is what turns a guess into a diagnosis.

Corrections

If a guide contains an error — a wrong number, an outdated price, a claim its cited source doesn’t support — say so and point to the page. Verified corrections are fixed in the article itself, per our Editorial & Testing Policy.

What We Can’t Do

We can’t diagnose your water remotely, and no website can. A guide can tell you which test matches your symptom and what the result means; only a certified laboratory test of your actual water can tell you what’s in it. If you suspect bacterial contamination or another health risk, start with our guide to well water testing and get a sample to a certified lab first.
